ReflexCES Achilles Arria 10 SoC SOM

Project schedule too short for an Intel FPGA and ARM Processor?

Need the flexibility and performance of an Intel FPGA plus an ARM processor, but the project’s development schedule doesn’t permit the inclusion of these complex, state-of-art devices?

An industry-proven solution is the popular ReflexCES Achilles Arria® 10 SoC System-on-Module which combines the flexibility and ease of programming of a dual-core, 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 CPU with the configurability and parallel processing power of a high-performance Intel FPGA.   This updated Achilles SoM standardizes all variants on the 4GB DDR4 and 32eMMC NAND while adding an I2C serial flash device to store nonvolatile user data which provides a simple method to uniquely identify each SoM.  A version of the SoM now supports increased transceiver interface data rates up to 12Gbps for video standards such as 12G-SDI, or High-Speed Data conversion using JESD204B.  A Development Kit with the Starter Carrier board, or with a PCIe carrier board is available separately to quickly start FPGA and software development.  The SoM can be purchased separately for production systems, in three different versions:  Lite 12G, Indus and Indus 12G.

The Achilles SoM addresses all the design complexities of the FPGA/processor subsystem, allowing you to focus on the critical portions of your system to reduce your product’s time-to-market.

Key benefits and features:

  • 86x95 mm (3.4”x3.8”) ultra compact form factor is ideal for area constrained applications with high-speed signal connections via FMC connectors
  • High quality board layout enables superior signal integrity to support multi-Gigabit serial protocols, including USB 3.0, PCIe Gen3 and 10G Ethernet
  • On-module DDR4/flash memories, eMMC, RTC, temperature sensor and power supplies
  • New Achilles “Golden System Reference Design” is available on rocketboards.org
  • Comprehensive reference designs with the ARM HPS configuring the SoM/carrier board’s hardware peripherals enables an out-of-the-box experience, designs provided with source code
  • Generation of latest available HPS software components using Yocto Project build flow
  • Standard Linux Debian support, allows seamless porting of existing application software

Some target markets include Automotive, Video Broadcast, Machine and Intelligent Vision, Industrial, Military, Test & Measurement and Medical.

Achilles Arria® 10 SoC System-on-Module Use Cases

This instrumentation use case shows multiple ADC & DAC data converters connected to Achilles via FMC Connectors for a Spectrometer application.  The integrated Ethernet interface supports connection to a Front End Data Server, with additional FPGA and HPS I/O available for digital control of Ethernet PHY.

This high end industrial printer use case shows the required support for multiple I/O protocols coming from an I/O Carrier Board. The Achilles module can support this due to the high I/O count available on both of the top FMC connectors, including support for both single-ended and differential standards.
