12 April 2023TVS Protection Solution against Interface Failure due to VBUS Accidentally in Contact with CC and SBU USB-IF launched the Type-C standard in 2013. This transmission interface became an instant hot topic among consumers and in the industry as soon as it was launched. Type-C not only features compact size and insertion in either orientation, but also acts as an interface for both signal transmission and power supply. The PD 3.0 protocol supported by most mainstream equipment is capable of up to 20V and 5A. For signal transmission, Type-C is capable of up to USB4 40Gbps, and completely compatible with A/V transmission protocols, such as DP.

08 March 2023ESD/EOS Protection Solution for Industrial PC 2.5Gbps Network Port Construction-wise, an industrial PC is not much different from a typical desktop PC and both of them are running on X86-based CPUs (from Intel and AMD), except that the industrial PC is all about stability, compatibility and expandability. For this, an industrial PC does not require transmission at I/O port as fast as in a consumer PC. On the other hand, an industrial PC requires reliability, longevity and robustness to external interference, as it is usually used in an environment mush harsher than that of a consumer PC, such as factory, railway application and on board a ship. Therefore, a lot of attention is placed on the ESD/surge protection at I/O port to keep ESD/surge from causing I/O port malfunction.

17 February 2023Protection Solution for USB Power Delivery 3.1 The latest upgrade has arrived for USB PD 3.0 protocol. The new PD 3.1 protocol supports 48V voltage output, while the charging power improves to 240W. The USB-IF just released the USB PD 3.1 protocol standard, with updates of power delivery capability. As defined in the latest protocol, the maximum charging power remains at 100W for the standard power range, and 28V, 36V, and 48V are added to the extended power range. The corresponding current is 5 amperes, resulting in the maximum power output increasing from 100W to 240W, as show in Table 1 below.

30 January 2023ESD Solution for Vehicular Multimedia Unit Vehicular multimedia systems have been developed for years by an increasing number of technical manufacturers. For the protection against electrostatic discharge (ESD), many of these systems are equipped with ESD protectors to keep the I/O ports from destructive ESD energy. The multimedia system is subject to electrostatic interference when its I/O is exposed to excessive ESD energy. Without appropriate ESD protection, it is likely to see system damage or even I/O port malfunction. It is necessary to have good ESD protectors for vehicular multimedia system units.
