PWM Input Audio Amplifier for Use in Microcontroller-based Sound Systems
The NA1150 is an audio switching driver IC that can be used as a PWM input audio amplifier in MCU-based sound systems. The combination with the CRI D-Amp Driver®, sound middleware of CRI Middleware Co., Ltd., provides high-quality sound reproduction.
Today’s microcontrollers’ faster processing speed makes it possible for software (sound middleware) to reproduce PWM voices and sound effects from an MCU. Compared to systems using hardware (DACs, speech synthesis LSIs, etc.), sound-middleware-based systems can reduce mounting area, development hours and number of parts, so the number of customers adopting sound middleware is increasing.
The NA1150 is an audio amplifier that can provide high-quality voices and sound effects with a simple structure; All what is needed is to connect it to an MCU including sound middleware.
Features of NA1150
1. Load Diagnostics Function
The NA1150 includes a load diagnostics function demanded by systems where sound alert is important. The load diagnostics function monitors operation status and performance of the system and detects signs of faults and overload early. The NA1150 detects wire harness disconnection, shorted load, and short to V+/GND, and notifies the MCU of the faults.
By the audio amplifier NA1150 including the load diagnostics function, system design becomes more flexible and design considering future expansion becomes easier.
2. Direct PWM Signal Input from MCU
Conventional audio reproduction systems require not only an MCU but also a DAC, a low path filter and amplifier, or a speech synthesis LSI and an amplifier. (See the following figure Conventional Configuration)
The combination of the sound middleware-installed MCU and the NA1150 realizes the configuration of only an MCU and an amplifier, and makes DACs, LPF/EVR, and speech synthesis LSIs unnecessary. Furthermore, since the configuration directly inputs PWM signals from the MCU without restoring the signals to analog ones, it achieves low-noise and high-quality sound reproduction without any sound deterioration.
3. Small Mounting Area
The NA1150, integrating an H-bridge circuit, is ideal for sound middleware CRI D-Amp Driver®. Using the combination contributes to reducing the number of parts and mounting area significantly, and therefore makes your system smaller.
